Seattle Off-Leash Areas

Seattle Parks and Recreation welcomes you to explore and enjoy most parks (on a leash), with seven exciting exceptions! At these designated off-leash areas, you are free to run, roll over, meet new friends, work out, play with your owners and socialize with your canine friends. Please remember that you're not allowed, even with a leash, on beaches, in children's play areas, or on organized athletic fields.

Ask your human to take you to:

GENESEE PARK. 46th Avenue South & South Genesee Street.
This is a fully fenced off-leash area with double gates, a doggie drinking fountain and a kiosk for community notices.

GOLDEN GARDENS PARK. 8498 Seaview Place North West, in Ballard.
The off-leash area is in the upper park, and is fenced.

WOODLAND PARK. You'll find the off-leash area west of the tennis courts on West Green Lake Way North. This site is sloped and has a doggie drinking fountain.

SAND POINT MAGNUSON PARK. 6500 Sandpoint Way North East.
This off-leash area is our largest, running along the eastern and northern boundaries of the park, with some beach access in the northeast corner. There is funding in the 2000 Pro Parks Levy to make substantial improvements to this off-leash area.

WESTCREST PARK. 8806 8th Avenue South West in West Seattle.
This site is growing, and has been included in a citizen-initiated plan for the park that focuses on the off-leash area, the children's play area, and trails.

I-90 BLUE DOG POND.
You'll recognize Blue Dog Pond by the big sculpture of a blue dog. It's located at the northwest corner of the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Way South and South Massachusetts.

Please Note: VOLUNTEER PARK. 1400 East Prospect on Capitol Hill, is closed effective Friday, November 3, by order of King County Superior Court, until further notice.

NEW PILOT SITE IS OPEN!! A new pilot off-leash area is open in Northacres Park, located west of I-5 at North 130th Street. The park is south of North 130th, and the off-leash area is in the northwest corner of the park. There is parking available on the west side of the park on 1st North East, and on the south side of the park on North 125th.

ANOTHER NEW PILOT SITE OPEN! in Jose Rizal Park, located at 1008 - 12th Avenue South on North Beacon Hill. Check it out!

Animal Control officers are charged with providing a safe, healthy and caring environment where animals and people can co-exist. To carry out their mission, Animal Control staff help to educate dog owners and actively enforce Seattle’s leash, scoop, and license laws. Officers patrol in Seattle parks to ensure the safe and appropriate use of both the off-leash and on-leash areas.

Fines for off-leash, license and scooping violations range from $50 to $150, and can be $500 at a beach.

Please obey the law.
